Round 1 BTRDA 2022 Blyton

Saturday 26th March we made our way to Blyton Park for the first round of the BTRDA Rallycross Championship and the sun was out and looking like a dry weekend unlike the previous wash out we had for the test day.

With the extra work now done from the test day it was time to see how we compared to the rest of the field for the 2022 season.

Race 1 we started on row 2, had a great start and into 2nd place, we had a quick challenge for the lead until the screen was covered in gravel which took a while to clear with a broken wiper blade meaning I couldn't see left hand corner apexes so lost some ground. Finally managed to get the gap back down but finished 2nd and fastest lap.

Race 2 we started on the front row where we had another great start and led from start to finish and winning with almost a 5 second gap and again fastest lap.

Race 3 off the back of the grid and things got a little tight and had a coming together as I went into 3rd place. Unfortunately we took a knock on the wheel which gave us a power steering issue and was best to retire the car and make sure we were ready for the final.

Starting on the front row in 2nd for the final I had another good start until being squeezed out at the first corner dropping back to 3rd, then at the hairpin on the gravel ended up in 4th. It took a couple of laps to get 3rd place back as there is not many chances to overtake at this circuit. Finally had a good run out of the hairpin and back into 3rd where now I could chase down the leaders. One more lap I would have been there but another fastest lap and 3rd overall.

Really please with the weekend and with the job the team has done with the car. Now ready for the first round of the British Rallycross Championship on Easter Weekend at Lydden Hill
